Dan Kapsalis, Sports Director
dkapsalis@beyondthis.net

Dan’s overall coaching philosophy…

“To teach kids more than just the game. It is about learning and performing, not winning. Lessons of teamwork, respect, building confidence through the game, learning to compete, and focusing on character values help shape the person athletes become. These lessons stay long after playing days are over, and when no one remembers what the score was or who won the game.”

Coach Kapsalis has over 50 years of involvement in youth, high school and collegiate soccer levels, including 35 years as a player at the club, high school, college and adult amateur levels and over 30 years as a professional coach. Coach Kapsalis has literally trained over 40,000 players at every level and stage of the game. He has played in over 1000 games and has coached in over 1000 games.

Currently, Coach Kapsalis is the Director of Coaching for the Youth Academy, Pathway and Rec Player at the Zionsville Youth Soccer Association (ZYSA). He also directs their Outreach and Special Needs programs.
Coach Kapsalis holds every state level license and a USSF National coaching license as well as his USSF National Youth license. He is also certified in CPR, injury care and prevention, speed & agility training, strength training, sexual abuse awareness, suicide prevention awareness, drug & alcohol awareness and concussion management protocol.

Coach Kapsalis holds numerous long-term service, sportsmanship and leadership awards as well as 34 additional Coach of the Year awards including twice being named NSCAA Coach of the Year.

He has created a non-profit organization called Beyond Futbol that conducts no-cost soccer mission programming serving under-privileged children in different parts of the world. Coach Kapsalis also wrote and produced an award-winning sports motivation film for kids called “Attitude is Everything.”

Coach Kapsalis graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management and Kinesiology. He now resides in Fishers, Indiana. He and his wife, Nancy, have been married since 1989. They have six children (3 girls and 3 boys ranging in ages from 15-28).

David Roux, Director of Coaching
davidroux@beyondthis.net

David graduated with honors from the University of North Dakota with a BA in Music.  Upon graduation, he and his wife, Stephanie, joined the staff of Cru – an international missions organization focused on engaging college students’ spiritual life.

While on staff with Cru, David experienced many roles that developed him as a leader.  Those experiences included late night conversations with college students, mentoring students, leading summer missions programs, touring as a rock drummer (yep!), and taking the role of Leadership Development and HR Director for a division of Cru.

David’s 21 years of experience working with students opened his eyes to some specific needs they have today.  Students are stressed academically and relationally, distracted, lacking self-awareness, unsure of their own purpose, direction, and lacking important life skills. David’s vision is to see students navigate life with a strong sense of WHO they are and WHERE they are going…successfully!  As a student discovers those two things, he or she will gain more confidence and hope in their futures.  As a Certified Life Coach (2014), David works with teens and young adults to empower them to take ownership of their personal and academic success.

David lives in Fishers, IN with Stephanie, a labor and delivery nurse, and has 3 kids, Lauren 18, Marcus 16, and Sophia 9. He is a sports and music guy, and his perfect day involves family and good friends, mountains or a body of water, good food, and significant conversation.

For eight years, she taught middle school science and seventh grade religion at St. Maria Goretti Catholic School, Westfield, Indiana.

Currently, Mary has combined her sales and teaching skills and passion for helping youth as an Education Specialist for Beyond This. She also tutors and works at the Mathnasium in Carmel.

Chrissy Witchell, Curriculum Editor, Project Manager
(317 ) 260-1022
cwitchell@beyondthis.net

Chrissy attended Calvary Chapel Bible College in Indianapolis, IN. While attending CCBCi, Chrissy began to dive into the world of coffee, working for Brickhouse Coffee Roasters, and co-managing private catering events. Her summers were spent working at Camp Indy, an outdoor adventure day camp. During her time at Camp Indy, Chrissy took on the role of Camp Counselor, Registrar, and Assistant Director. Working for the camp taught her a great deal of endurance, as the days were both physically and mentally exhausting. Chrissy also learned a great deal of compassion for the campers and counselors alike. As her she was able to build relationships with the staff and campers, Chrissy’s heart grew for them. She learned the brokenness they deal with and was able to be a safe person for them to share with.

In 2015 Chrissy moved to Appleton, Wisconsin with her then-husband. A year after moving they opened up a third wave coffee shop in a new local development. The cafe quickly took off, and Chrissy was heavily involved in the design of the cafe, business planning, and day-to-day operations of this buzzing new local space. Opening a cafe was one of the hardest yet rewarding challenges she had experienced up to that point. She learned that opening a business is not for the faint of heart, you must be willing to push through setbacks and exhaustion to see your hard work pay off.

In 2017 Chrissy left her role as Operating Manager to begin work as a Behavioral Therapist for autistic children. And, after four years, Chrissy returned to her role as Assistant Director for Camp Indy in the summer of 2019. Upon the ending of the camp season, Chrissy returned to Wisconsin where she now manages Seth’s Coffee.

While walking through an extremely difficult season, Chrissy discovered her passion for writing. Daily journaling became a way to process the unexpected changes happening around her. In 2017, Chrissy started a blog where she writes about the lessons God is teaching her. She aspires to point her readers to Christ with every word written and be a beacon of hope in a broken world.

Tom Gilles, DayOne Speaker, Life Mentor
tgilles@beyondthis.net

Tom Gilles grew up and went to school in Wisconsin. His dream was to become a professional snowboarder. As soon as he was able to, he moved to Lake Tahoe. There, he met a cinematographer, and his reputation grew when he ended up in a hit extreme snowboard movie. As a professional snowboarder, he travelled the world for years competing as one of the best.

But, in the end, it wasn’t a fulfilling lifestyle.

Tom turned to his true calling – using his experience as an extreme snowboarder to speak to the hearts of youth. By sharing his “success” story, he strives to reach those who are struggling to find true purpose and passion in life with a message of hope.

Soon after he left snowboarding, he met his wife Shannon. They have three children Rosie, Frankie, and Wells. Tom, along with his family’s support, felt his mission to share his story so strongly that for half a year they trekked across the country in an RV to spread his message. Tom was also a sought-after speaker for Air1’s Dare to Dream school program.

Tom continues his journey to help others at Beyond This as both a motivational speaker with our ONEday speaker’s forum and as a Beyond This Certified Life Mentor. To schedule him for your organization, please contact Lisa Schulthesis (317) 372-0507. For one-on-one or group mentoring, follow this link.
